Mounting Brackets for Solar Panels: Free Quotes from Local Suppliers
Free quotes from solar suppliers and installers across South Africa. One request, no obligation.

Solar panel mounting is what holds your panels safely to the roof or the ground, through wind, hail and decades of heat and cold. SolarPanel.co.za is a free quote service. You send one request and we pass it to independent suppliers and installers in your area, who quote you directly. We do not sell, supply or fit mounting kits ourselves. There is no fee and no obligation, so you can compare kits and fitting before you commit.
Mounting systems by roof type
The roof decides the hardware. A good installer chooses the system that matches your roof rather than forcing one kit onto every job.
- IBR and corrugated sheeting: rail feet or clamps fixed to the purlins, with sealing to keep water out.
- Concrete and clay tile: stainless or aluminium roof hooks fitted under or between tiles.
- Slate: special flashing and careful handling, as slate breaks easily.
- Flat concrete roofs: tilted frames, either ballasted with weights or bolted down where allowed.
- Ground mounts: steel or aluminium frames on piles or concrete footings.
Brackets, rails, clamps and stands
Most systems share the same parts. Aluminium rails run across the roof and carry the panels. Mid clamps hold panels between each other and end clamps hold the outer edges. Hooks or feet attach the rails to the roof. Stands tilt panels on flat roofs and in gardens.
Look for anodised aluminium and stainless steel fasteners, which resist corrosion. Near the coast, salt makes this even more important. Tilt-up stands let panels sit at a better angle for winter sun, while flush mounting looks neater on a pitched roof. For an overview of panel choices, see solar panels.
Wind, hail, theft and structural checks
Panels act like sails in strong wind, so the mount must be rated for the wind zone, the roof height and the panel size. Heavy 550W panels place more load on rails and fixings. Ask whether the roof structure has been checked and who signs off the fixing method, and have a roofing or structural professional involved if the roof is old, damaged or lightly built.
Theft of panels is a concern in some areas. Anti-theft clamps, which need a special tool to release, make removal harder. Ground-mounted arrays on farms and estates can also use fencing and lighting for added security.
What affects the price of mounting
We never give prices. Mounting quotes depend on a few clear things.
- Number and size of panels, and the layout.
- Roof type, height and access.
- Material and corrosion protection.
- Extras such as anti-theft clamps, tilt frames or ballast.
- Labour, and whether the kit is supplied only or installed.
Use our solar installation page if you want fitting included, and give each supplier your roof details so they quote the right kit.
What to include in your request
- Describe your roof type and pitch
- State panel size and number
- Say if you need supply only or fitting
- Mention coastal or high-wind location
- Ask about anti-theft options
Solar Panel Mounting at different properties
- Family homes: rails and hooks matched to tile or sheet roofs, fixed neatly and sealed to keep water out
- Estate homes: low-profile flush mounting that keeps panels tidy and in line with estate design rules
- Townhouses and flats: light mounting on a shared roof, where body corporate approval and roof waterproofing matter
- Farms, smallholdings and lodges: ground frames and shed-roof rails built to withstand wind, dust and open-field exposure
- Shops, offices and schools: tilted frames on flat roofs or rails on sheeting, with attention to roof loading
- Factories and warehouses: engineered ballasted or bolted systems across large roofs, with structural sign-off
