Solar in Benoni

Benoni sits on the eastern Highveld with plenty of sunshine, dry winters and summer thunderstorms that can bring hail. It falls under Ekurhuleni, which requires embedded generation such as grid-tied and hybrid systems to be registered and approved before they run. Many lakeside and family-suburb houses date from the 1960s and 1970s and have concrete tile or corrugated roofs that should be inspected before panels go on, with wiring that may need upgrading to get a new Certificate of Compliance. Newer estates toward Rynfield have modern tiled roofs. Hybrid backup against load-shedding, solar geysers and light-industrial rooftops in Benoni and Brakpan are the usual requests from this area.

Typical solar geyser installation requests in the area come from:

  • Family homes: a one or two day job fitting collectors and a tank to the family home's roof
  • Estate homes: a tidy installation with the tank in the ceiling and collectors that meet the architectural rules
  • Townhouses and flats: careful roof work coordinated with the body corporate, with limited access and shared structure
  • Factories and warehouses: multiple collectors and large storage tanks fitted on warehouse roofs or structures, with proper access equipment
  • Shops, offices and schools: scheduled work outside trading hours, supplying hot water to kitchens, ablutions or a guesthouse
  • Farms, smallholdings and lodges: installations at farmhouses, cottages and lodges, often with long pipe runs and ground-mounted collectors

Why get a quote in Benoni first?

Taking the first price you hear can cost more over the life of the system. By requesting a quote for Benoni, you can check the equipment, the warranties, the after-sales support and whether registration is included, and find a solar geyser installer you can call again.

What to include in your request

  • Roof material and approximate height
  • Position of the existing geyser
  • Whether the tank goes on the roof or in the ceiling
  • Certificates you expect to receive
  • Preferred dates and access arrangements

The more detail you give, the more accurate your quote will be.

Frequently asked questions

What will it cost in Benoni?
It depends on the size of the system, the equipment chosen, the roof, the distance from the inverter to the distribution board, the paperwork for your electricity supplier and how soon you need it done. Tick your loads on the form and a solar geyser installer working in Benoni will quote you.
Will someone come out to look at the property?
Yes, for most jobs. The person quoting needs to see the roof, its direction and shading, the distribution board and where the inverter and batteries will go. Give your suburb on the form and they will arrange a visit.
How much sun is there in Benoni?
A north-facing array in Benoni makes about 5.1 kWh per kWp a day averaged over the year. Shade from trees or neighbours, the roof angle and dust change this, so the installer will check your roof.
