Solar in George

George sits between the Outeniqua mountains and the Garden Route coast, with mild temperatures, frequent cloud and rain in any season, so solar output is more modest than on the dry inland plateau but still useful. The George Municipality supplies the town and requires grid-tied and hybrid systems to be registered and approved, with Eskom serving some outlying areas. Golf estates, holiday homes at Wilderness and Herolds Bay and retirement housing mostly have tile and IBR roofs, and coastal sites face salt air and strong wind. Hybrid backup, solar geysers and batteries to ride through outages are popular, and commercial rooftops are growing steadily.

Typical solar batteries requests in the area come from:

• Estate homes: neat, enclosed battery storage paired with a larger hybrid inverter, often within estate design rules
• Family homes: a wall-mounted battery in the garage keeping lights, fridge and wifi running through load-shedding
• Townhouses and flats: compact battery units for small backup loads, installed with body corporate approval
• Shops, offices and schools: batteries that keep tills, servers, alarms and lights running when the power drops
• Farms, smallholdings and lodges: larger battery banks for pumps, cold rooms and lodges where the grid is unreliable
• Factories and warehouses: rack-mounted storage that carries critical loads and smooths peaks alongside a large solar array
